Hi all! My name is Jane Pace. I started BONAPPETITMOM, because I am at a point in my life where I feel credible enough to do so. I have battled with weight loss all my life. I was a very heavy teenager. I lost a lot of weight during my college years. I was going to be a history teacher, but at the suggestion of my parents I switched my major to food and nutrition. I graduated from Queens College in 1979 with a double BS in nutrition and history. I worked for three years in Florida in the institutional end and to be perfectly honest, I really did not like it. I moved back to NY and I went to Queens College for my masters in nutrition education. In my twenties I was up and down like a yo-yo. When I began teaching I was heavy and then I lost weight again. During my pregnancy I gained 70 lbs. After my child was born I lost half of the weight. I maintained it up until my thyroid went off the chart and put on 40 lbs. When my thyroid was in remission I lost some of the weight. However a few years down the road, my thyroid went out of remission and menopause kicked in at the same time and I gained everything back. Being a size 18 would not have been a good time to do this . In 2008 my thyroid went into remission and I was able to lose weight. With a good diet and new strategies I lost 75 lbs. in two years. It is now 2012 and I am still the same. I feel credible now to go and talk about good nutrition. I battle everyday to keep my weight off. Some days better, a few slips here and there but manageable. As I needed to by clothes, I shopped small and on clearance, because I am waiting for my thyroid to go out of remission and the weight to creep back. I am thankfully still thin, and I feel great. I want to share my knowledge of good nutrition. I have kept up on the changing world of nutrition, because it has changed so much. I have an open mind and various ways to show people how to lose weight and maintain it.
