Back to Winter
It is the 2nd day of April and it is 33°F. So much for spring and Puxatawney Phil. As I blogged yesterday that my cooking actions are now regulated by the temperature outside, I made a BBQ last night. I made exactly what I planned to. I prepared the sweet potato as I blogged yesterday. I microwaved them on the setting for potato. I then wrapped them in foil and I put them on the grill when I prepared the steak. I did not marinate the steak. I let the meat come to room temperature and I put on olive oil, salt and pepper. I made a sirlon steak. I grilled the steak on a hot grill to sear the meat. I cooked it for 7 to 10 minutes on each side to get it medium well for my daughter. I decided to make broccoli. I oven roasted the broccoli with olive oil, salt, pepper, granulated garlic and bread crumbs. I made a bread crumb mixture of panko, and Italian flavored bread crumbs. I found that the panko crumbs makes a crunchier top while the Italian seasoned added flavor. I served the steak without condiments and it was delicious. I added sea salt to the potato. No fat was added. My daughter really enjoyed the meal. Tonight I make making ground turkey something. I’m not sure what it will be yet. I will leave that up to her. I have a hunch it will be Turkey Bolognese. I have all the ingredients on hand if she desires me to cook that for her. Upon looking in my freezer, I have about 2 1/2 quarts of blueberries. I had frozen one on purpose before I knew she was going to the hospital and then I froze the rest as not to lose them. The blueberry cake was to good to make again. I might just have to, just to make room in my freezer. I’m not sure yet on the potential fate of the berries. It is cold out today I might just make a blueberry crisp or a blueberry cobbler. I can make individual crisps that so that I can control the amount of leftovers that I have. That way I will not be tempted to eat a whole crisp meant for 8 servings or better. I am going to post my recipes from last nights dinner. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.awney
