Broil or Grill

Sometimes I am motivated to grill my food. Many a cold day and even in the snow, I would fire up the grill and BBQ chicken cutlets, steak or even vegetables.  I loved the smell of the BBQ when it was so cold outside.  It made the food smell and taste better.  I have become more temperature controlled.  Grilling in 30° F weather has somewhat lost its appeal. But it is now April, and with warmer weather on the way and a brand new grill to BBQ with, the urge to BBQ is becoming stronger. In the summer when the weather becomes hot and unbearable and the thought of turning on the oven slays me, my grill looks like heaven on wheels. Since I heard it will be going back to the freezing mark tomorrow, I am taking this opportunity tonight to grill. I took out a steak from Fairway last night. I am not sure if I want to marinade it or just salt and pepper it. Many a day comes now when I prefer plain olive oil, salt and pepper to loads of spices and seasonings. Maybe my tastes have changed. I also think a good steak really does not need a marinade unlike chicken which is more bland. Now you might be thinking why don’t I use a grill pan on my stove top.  I actually own one. I just find that it is very messy to clean up after. Therefore I don’t use it. This winter passed by with not as much cooking as I had hoped to do.  Now with spring approaching, I plan on using my grill as much as possible. What I am thinking is that I might try using my grill pan on my grill to prepare vegetables and fruit. I find that many times in preparing vegetables and fruit on the grills they fall off the grates and wind up in the grill and then the garbage. I think by using the grill pan they might have a better chance of making it to the plate. I have not seen a grill pan placed on a BBQ but that does not mean it would not work. I also bought sweet potato and I do plan on grilling them tonight along with the steak. To be quite honest, I microwave the potato until fork tender and then I wrap it in foil and place it on the grill when I cook the steak.   This way I don’t waste gas and I get the BBQ flavor on the potato. I find that is the best way to make potato on the grill. It is one shortcut that I find that does not take the flavor from the potato and the potato  is ready to eat at the same time as the other food that is grilled. Tomorrow it is back to the stove. Enjoy the nice day. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
