The Broadway Diner
I remember as a kid growing up in Canarsie Brooklyn, the diner of choice was the Arch Diner on Ralph Avenue and Flatlands Avenue. I remember Spiro and George the owners and managers of the diner. I remember many many lunches and diners there. I remember the wonderful burgers and fries, tuna salad on rye bread. My sister would order the frozen yogurt with wet walnuts. For every table when you walked in was a bowl of pickles and sour tomatoes. But the dinners were insanely delicious. All dinners started with soup or salad. The salad was a large lettuce wedge which we all ordered with blue cheese or russian dressing. It was cold crisp and just yummy. On the table we were given bread baskets of fresh challah bread, melba toast and breadsticks. Butter was always there too. And the relish tray filled with celery stalks, and carrots. We were also indulged with 3 bean salad and cole slaw. The fish was exceptionally good and that was what we ordered. Whether we ordered the stuffed filet of sole or the gigantic Alaskan king crab claws, or broiled salmon, we received tremendous portions. Definitely big enough for two. Every dinner was served with a choice of vegetable and a choice of potato. Desert was also included and the range was anything from ice cream to a cookie to their fantastic cheesecake. It was always a treat to go there. It was also opened 24 hours, seven days a week. No other dinner ever met the wonderful food and times at the Arch Diner. When Canarsie changed and it was no longer safe to go there anymore, we went to the Plaza Diner, but it paled in comparison to the Arch. Since moving to Plainview, I have two local diners in Plainview which I will leave untitled. They are good diners, but do not come close to the Arch in anyway. However I have finally found my new Arch diner. It is the Broadway Diner located at 267 North Broadway Hicksville, NY11801 (516) 681-3982. I ate there many years ago before I moved to Plainview. I recently rediscovered it again, and I have pledged my loyalty to this establishment. When you are on the north shore of Nassau County you must try the Broadway Diner. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
