Electric vs. Gas Cooking
I can not even remember ever cooking on an electric stove. The exception being in Florida, where I burned almost everything that I cooked. When I lived in Florida, my apartments all had electric cooking. I burned almost everything that I cooked on the stove top. I found it very hard to adjust to electric cooking. The stove got very hard very fast. Naturally I burned all of my pots. I therefore stopped cooking in Florida and went to all the free happy hours and ate there. I also worked in food administration and I had some meals at work. I also took food home for dinner. When I went to work in the meat company, my bosses ordered lunch in everyday. When my parents moved down to Florida George Forman became my hero. We also dined out quite a bit. When we moved from Brooklyn to Long Island the only request that I had was that my home have gas cooking. I love cooking on gas stooves. The control on the gas flame exceeds the control you have on the electric ones. When it comes to the ovens I do prefer gas over electric especially when broiling food. When you bake or roast food the electric oven is just fine. But, I do prefer gas cooking. I have friends that cook with there toaster ovens. I have never understood that nor am I able to do it at home. Ialso must say that when I lost power during Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy I was able to cook. I was able to light my stove top and make coffee and prepare food. Yesterday I made blintzers. I was going to cook them on the stove top, but since I do not know how to clean the new flat stove tops, and did not want to clean up the mess, I choose an alternative way. I decided to make them in the toaster oven. My friend put the toaster oven on at 400° F. After 15 minutes they were cold. We then turned off the toaster oven and put them in a 400°F oven. Since I did not want to burn them, I watched them very carefully. On the stove top I almost burned a small top of vegetables because I did not see a flame and forgot it was on. I got to them just in time. Dinner was warm and yummy. I am not sure how long I will be living in my home, but I do know wherever I wind up, the cooking system in my home will be gas.
