In the upscale area of Amagansett New York, there is a lovely tavern know as Indian Wells Tavern. It is in a small town, with a casual ambiance is the most charming tavern. Upon entering Indian Wells Tavern, you will see rich wood and glass, and a beautiful and fully stocked bar that goes the distance of the tavern. There are tables inside located by the windows and then there is a wood and glass separation wall that is wonderful. The glass lighting fixtures are stunning. It is a quaint and comfort-styled restaurant that you will come to enjoy. Our wait service was fantastic. Our waitress was very sweet and well versed on the menu of the tavern. We asked for her suggestions and we had a fantastic meal.
Our journey started with the Crispy Calamari; tender calamari lightly floured and flash-fried, served with homemade marinara and chipotle lime sauces. Along with that, we had the fresh mussels steamed in white wine, garlic and mustard, topped with Old Bay seasoned fries. The calamari was light and delicious. I loved the chipotle lime sauce. It complimented the calamari very nicely. The mussels were cooked to perfection. Plump and juicy served with great spicy french fries to balance the sweetness of the mussels. We also had a wonderful white Chardonnay from California by the name “J. LOHR.” It was crisp and refreshing. For our entrees we ordered the Broiled Teriyaki Glazed Atlantic Salmon, served over baby greens tossed with shaved daikon radish, tomatoes, cucumber, crispy wontons and sesame vinaigrette. We also the special of the day, shrimp and clams, mushrooms over penne in a creamy pink sauce with fresh basil. The light salad married well with the decadent pasta dish. The salmon was seared and cooked to perfection, over a wonderful crisp salad with a refreshing vinaigrette. The pasta was a delightful, decadent, and flavored to the max. We also had delicious garlic bread with the taverns initials seared on the bun. For dessert we ordered the Banana Taco. It was a crisp flour tortilla cup, filled with vanilla ice cream, caramelized sliced banana, pecan brittle and whipped cream. This is hands down one of my favorite desserts ever. It was simple ingredients, prepared with such excellence, that it took it over the top.
What I learned about Amagansett is that in an upscale town, with a casual dress code, you will have the most marvelous meal. The food was fabulous, the staff was friendly and accommodating to all of your needs. In this lovely setting a return trip is a definite. I heard it said that no matter how good the dinner was, people always remember dessert. This is so true of Indian Wells Tavern. The food was definitely delicious and the dessert unforgettable.
