Exquisite, spectacular, amazing just about captures the words to express my eating experience at Jonathan’s Ristorante in Huntington, New York.  I had heard of Jonathan’s in Huntington in only positive phrases. A phrase like it’s very good, about summed it up. Based on my experience, this was not just a dine out, it was a marathon of the finest, most delectable northern Italian food that I have had in some time. Upon meeting the staff, we were engaged and we were seated at a lovely table. The staff is charming and engaging. You could feel the love of the restaurant.  As the specialties of the food and drinks were being offered, there was an excitement in the air. I then looked at the menu with the mouthwatering offerings, and we ordered the recommendations of the staff.

I had the watermelon derby which consisted of watermelon, mint, lime and a little gin. Also on had was the blueberry and lavender lemonade made up of greenhook ginsmith, fresh blueberries, lemon and lavender and a splash of vodka. As we sipped on the cocktails placed on the table were a mixture of fine olives, shards of parmigano reggiano cheese, and warm bread with a wonderful extra virgin olive oil. As we listened carefully to the specials and appetizers, we ordered the appetizers and when we were asked about our eating preferences, my friend told them that she doesn’t eat pork or shellfish, the staff was very accommodating to her needs. What ever dishes included pork or shellfish were taken off her dish. The flatbread pizza with the ricotta, morel, asparagus, truffle oil, and speck, came with the speck on half, without the speck on the other. We also had the burrata, crispy kale, drunken cherries, pistachio and bacon. The bacon was on a separate plate.  The flatbread pizza was divine. The truffle oil took the ricotta and morels to a new level. The burrata with the drunken cherries was wonderful. I do not know what they did to the kale, but by far it was the finest I ever ate. The burrata was over the top creamy. The next course that was recommended and ordered was the tagliatelle with eggplant, san marzano tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil. There is nothing that can compare to fresh pasta. The difference is night and day. When done well the taste and the feel of fresh pasta is outstanding. This was a fabulous, well done dish. It was rich, and flavorful and so decadent. I enjoyed every single bite. The next glorious dish was the pear and lemon risotto with white gulf shrimp. The waiter brought the risotto with the luscious shrimp with mine and the left off the shrimp on my friends as we asked. The shrimp were beautiful. Plated exquisitely, the shrimp tasted as good as they looked. The risotto was creamy and the lemon and pear complemented the risotto cooked to a perfect al dente. For our main dishes, we had the Long Island Duck Breast served with a sweet potato puree, pancetta/brussel sprouts and rosemary  and a rosemary/Cabernet  reduction. The duck breast was cooked to a perfect medium, and the brussel spouts were amazing. The rosemary flavored every componet of the dish without masking the taste of the perfect duck, sweet potato, and brussel sprouts. The orata that came highly recommended did not support. I was told the orata was similar to bronzino, but a bigger fuller fish. it was stuffed fresh herbs and extravirgin olive oil. it was served with perfectly roasted potatoes and salsa verde. The potatoes were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The salsa verde was the perfect sauce to complete this excellently mastered dish. The dessert choices were outstanding. We decided to share the fresh blueberry tart over a light vanilla custard topped with a fresh blueberry coulis. While we waited with our coffee, our waiter brought out brownie cookies and fresh whipped cream. The whipped cream was so fresh and sweet and glorious. The cookies were like chocolate meringue, with the chewiness of a brownie. The blueberry tart with the blueberry coulis looked so rich, but it was actually light. The crust was so flaky and the cream was light and velvety. The top blueberries were fresh and crunchy. The blueberry coulis only added to this fabulous dessert.

Jonathan’s Ristorante is a chic, elegant, upscale restaurant. When you walk into the restaurant, you will see a beautifully well stocked bar encased in rich wood and a marble top. The tables also in rich wood and velvet covered chairs were extremely comfortable. The service was outstanding. From the moment we stepped into Jonathan’s we were treated like family.  From the host/hostess to the  maitre d’ to the waiter and the busboy, everyone came over introduced themselves and made you feel like you were the only people in the restaurant. They explained every item on the menu with such expertise and exactness, that you knew what to expect on every dish, only to be pleasantly surprised with the over the top amazing dishes that we were served. The staff was very accommodating to the needs of my friend. They  went above and beyond to meet our needs. Jonathan’s  is centrally located in the village of Huntington, New York. Whether you stop there for lunch as you shop through town, plan for a night on the town or a celebration, you will not be disappointed. Jonathan’s Ristorante is a spectacular restaurant that you will return on many occassions.
