Magnifique, is the first word that describes my dining experience at Sage Bistro Modrene in Woodbury, NY. When you enter the bistro, a beautifully well stocked bar is your introduction to this five star restaurant. After you are met at the door by the lovely and gracious staff, you are taken to the inside of a lovely modern French bistro. With both cozy booths and beautiful wood tables, you can look up and see the Eiffel Tower and you feel as if you have been transported to Paris.

Our server left us with their well laid out menu. As we awaited for our cocktails, we browsed the menu with their eye catching array of Hors d’ Oeuvres, Appetizers and Salads. After looking over their fabulous and decadent choices, we ordered the Sage Salad, which consisted of mixed greens, endive, beets, goat cheese, and walnuts in a raspberry vinaigrette. We also ordered the shrimp and avocado tower. The tower was filled with grilled shrimp, frisee, cucumber, hearts of palm and avocado. The mixed salad was so refreshing and crisp, and the melding of the goat cheese with the raspberry vinaigrette was just a fabulous combination of different flavors and textures. The shrimp and avocado tower was plated beautifully. Tall and gorgeous, we asked our server to dish it up for us, and he did with a smile. It was smooth and crunchy and every item in the tower stood up to its flavor without overwhelming the others.

For our entrees we ordered the Fricassee of Scallops & Shrimp and the Herb & Bread Crusted Bronzino Filet. The Fricassee of Scallops and Shrimp was served over a puree of sauteed leeks and butternut squash and a mushroom and truffle cream sauce. Decadent does not do justice to the heavenly taste of the shrimps and scallops. I have never had scallops that tender and luscious before. It was over the top. The herb & crusted bronzino was melt in your mouth tender. Served with artichoke, spinach & tomato ragu in a white wine and lemon broth, every bite left you wanting more and more.

The dessert menu was full of fabulous choices. We ordered the Crepes Suzettes and the Warm Apple Tart. The Crepes Suzettes were served with an orange grand marnier sauce and vanilla ice cream. The melting ice cream over the warm crepes with the grand marnier sauce just exploded with flavor from the first bite to the last. The warm apple tart with the hazelnut ice cream and caramel sauce was nothing less then divine. Buttery and flaky, I can see why it is a restaurant favorite.

From the moment you walk into Sage Bistro, between the excellent food and top rate service, I know that you will not be disappointed, in fact it will become a favorite bistro that you will return to again and again.
