Thanksgiving 2014 All Cheers!
Yesterday was Thanksgiving and it was delicious. We started on my sister’s stuffed mushrooms. They were wonderful, as were her beet salad and tossed salad. Then came out the heavy hitters. The turkey and ham. My sister cooked the turkey and basted throughout the time she cooked it. My brother in law carved them and they were delicious. The meat was moist and juicy. The ham was good. I only had a taste, as I was looking forward to the sides. My sister’s broccoli was wonderful as usual. I made two types of stuffing. One was my Grandma Hilda’s Traditional Stuffing. The other stuffing I made I called Over the Top Stuffing. I made m Grandma Hilda’s Traditional stuffing and added fresh cornbread, pecans, cranberries, and granny smith apples. The recipes are posted on the bonsppetitmom recipes page. They were both delicious. I asked and took a poll and the crowd had different takes. There were people that enjoyed the traditional more and those who liked the new one better. I made sweet potatoes that went over big. I made whipped sweet potato with a streusel topping. That recipe is also posted on the bonappetitmom recipes page. There was a cauliflower pudding that a cousin made that was very yummy. I must steal that recipe. I made garlic mashed potatoes that were good. I made my cranberry sauce using Calvados brandy in place of the usual liquid. It was good but I think I prefer it using just using water or apple cider. The cranberry sauce with the apple brandy did not gel the same way. I realized that alcohol does not freeze. That was why the cranberry sauce did not gel like it usually does. My cranberry sauce is posted on my bonappetitmom recipes page. I made my corn pudding. It is a standard that I make that if I didn’t, I would get hell. I have been making that recipe for 20 years. It is that good and that close to my heart. That is the one recipe I am not ready to share. The desserts were all store bought. I felt bad not making my pumpkin bars or gingerbread. I think I will save it for the rest of the holiday’s to come. I was very thankful for having my family together . I hope that everyone I know and love had a wonderful Thanksgiving too. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
