Jewish Holiday’s Part III
Mandel Bread. I got this recipe many years ago from my friend. It is a foul proof recipe that I have tweaked. I make it every year. I change up batters and I change up the candies. This year I used fresh blueberries in a batch with yogurt covered raisins. also made a batch with cinnamon and sugar. I also decided this year not to slice them. I went to a kosher bakery and when I have purchased a mandel bread, they ask me if I would like it sliced. To me that means that the mandel bread is not twice baked. I did that yesterday and it worked out great. I also like a softer baked mandel bread anyway. I also had friends over for a pre Rosh Hashanah dinner. I made chopped liver, stuffed cabbage, salad, brisket, oven roasted potatoes with rosemary and mixed veggies. My only complaint was that I put to much rice in my stuffed cabbage. It happens. I will know better for the next time. The sauce was delicious and for once I did not make too much. I also made gefilte fish. I usually make it the day before, but I ran out of time so I made a quick version of my great grandmother’s recipe. My brisket was yummy. The recipe for the mandel bread will be posted soon. Watch for updates. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
