Cooking Kosher

Yesterday I cooked a kosher meal. I was making fish for my friend’s mom. When I took it out Tuesday to defrost it, I had no idea what it was. When I took it out last night it was very very firm. It was not the soft fish that I am used to making. I dredged it in a little flour and salt free Mrs. Dash seasoning. I also added a little salt. Surprising that in a kosher home there was no kosher salt. I had to use table salt. With that being said I prepared the fish on an electric stove top. I added a little olive oil and butter to the pan. I saute the fish and at the end I added a splash of lemon juice, and I basted the fish in the lemon butter sauce. She told me the fish was delicious. The ends of the fish was tough. That did not surprise me since it was tough before I prepared it. I still have no idea of what kind of fish I prepared. I only know what I did not prepare. I asked her if the fish was kosher and of course the answer was yes. The fish itself had to be cured in salt for preservation. Also a challenge for me was cooking on the electric stove top. I am used to cooking on gas. You must be very watchful on electric cooking because it heats very quickly and you can burn the food you are preparing. But to my amazement it was a success. Anyway off to New Paltz, to retrieve my daughter for the summer. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
