A Classic Diner Meal

Last night a friend invited me to dinner. we went to the Blue Angel Diner in Plainview. as I browsed through the menu, I came across an old favorite that I use to enjoy at the Arch Diner in Canarsie. I ordered the stuffed filet with crabmeat. The waiter put out rolls, breadsticks, and melba toast. He put out a dish of butter. He also put out pickles, cole slaw and bean salad. My meal first started with a nice salad with Thousand Island dressing on the side.  I only ate half knowing I would never finish or pt a dent in my meal. The stiffed filet with crabmeat was ordered with a baked potato and stewed zucchini with tomatoes. The meal came with two very large stuffed filets. I was stuffed before I even started the first large piece of filet. I ate about three quarters of the first filet, part of the baked potato, and some zucchini. I have learned that when I feel full, to stop eating. The portions are so big, I could have shared with someone. The truth is that I knew when the meal came that in my mind, I portioned out what one portion should be. I think people who complain about gaining weight when they eat out must eat everything they are given. My rule of thumb is you are getting more than double what a normal meal would give you. In order to avoid the extra pounds, I look and eat what I would consider a normal portion and make believe the rest is not there. This is where the psychology sets in. If I did not tell myself my rules, I could definitely have eaten every last bite. If you do that enough times the stomach will stretch and you will find yourself eating more all the time. I love sit down dinners because you can portion everything out in your mind. Buffets are much harder to portion out. Making more than one trip to the buffet can become dangerous. I will always choose a sit down dinner over a buffet dinner. The food at the Blue Angel was very good. It is very classic diner fare. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
