A Review of Thanksgiving 2013
I will tell you that every bitefull of food last night was delicious. My sister Cindy’s salad was scrumptious. The turkey was moist and delicious. Every side dish was fabulous. My favorite part of thanksgiving dinner are the side dishes. Let us begin with my sister’s sides. She made her salad, garlic mashed potatoes which were superb. She also made her usual broccoli, but her string bean casserole was really good this year. it was crunchy, and creamy. I really loved it. Her cousin Angela prepared sides as well. Angela makes a cauliflower souffle every year that is absolutely my favorite dish that she prepares. She also made sweet potatoes that were yummy as well. I loved my sides. Eating my grandmother’s stuffing took my back to my grandmother’s apartment in Boro Park. It is so wonderful to eat food that can transfer you to a different time and place, that was filled with wonderful memories. My other sides were yummy too. The corn pudding and cranberry compote was delicious. Now for desserts. My no bake peanut butter pretzel thing to me was just okay. I think I made it to dry, by adding to much pretzel and not enough butter. However the pumpkin bars with the cream cheese frosting was my favorite. Second runner-up was Angela’s ricotta cake. That was really good. As far as the store-bought pies, they were good, but I would have not missed them if they were not there. I must admit that I did enjoy Angela’s noodle pudding. How I did not gain 10 lbs last night is a miracle itself. It really was a lovely holiday especially after last year. We missed our loved ones who were no longer here, but were grateful to have the family we have. I hope everyone had a Happy Hanukkah and Thanksgiving. One last comment. The store made potato pancakes were not even close to the delicious quality of potato pancakes that my daughter prepared for me the night before. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
