I’m Back!

I spent the entire day cooking yesterday. I went shopping early. I got my ingredients ready for my stuffed cabbage. I made my brisket. I made fake rugelach. I made my mother’s brisket. I put the brisket in the oven with onions and soup mix on top. I cooked my brisket for 4 hours. My big mistake was not cooling it enough before I sliced it. It is amazing how you can kill a piece of meat by carving it too soon. I prepped my stuffed cabbage. I boiled my cabbage and got my leaves ready to roll. I also made up a new dish. I made sweet and sour cabbage. When you make stuffed cabbage, you get to the part of the cabbage in which you cannot roll anymore. Instead of just putting it in the pot, or throwing it out, I created a new side. I sliced an onion and the cabbage. I sautéed the onion and cabbage in some butter and olive oil. I added red wine, balsamic vinegar and sugar. I cooked and then let it set up. It really came out good. I also made fake rugelach.  I used pie crust instead of a homemade dough. It did not come out half bad. I think I will try puffed pastry next time. Although the pie crust did feel more like a dough than puff pastry will. It was really easy to cut the pie dough into the shape of the cookie. It was great and not messy. No flour was needed or used. In my kitchen that is wonderful. I used parchment paper. There was virtually no mess to clean. I spoke with my cousin from NJ, and we discussed recipes from our past. It was a great day. Besides botching the slicing of my brisket, it was a wonderful day.
