Homage to Paula Deen
I am sometimes very happy that nobody reads my blog. I can now tell my opinions on the whole Paula Deen scandal. First let me say that we all at some point in our lives have said something inappropriate, off color or out of the box. The mistake that she made, was saying a word years ago. With that being said, she made her brother a wedding reliving the time and era of the old south. Movies and televisions shows have been made upon those days with not so much as a head spin. the kicker of all of this is the lawsuit is been filed by a white person who works for her. This sounds like a jealous woman wanting a piece of Paula Deen’s pie. Whether or not you like her food, or personality, to me this is a witch hunt at it’s finest. First let us address the Food Network. Paula has worked on that network for 11 years. She has brought with her a major audience following. People who knew nothing of this new network, tuned in to see her and then stayed to watch the other shows on the network. Without a trial, they dumped her like a sack of rotted potatoes. Smithfield Pork products were next. I bought a ham with Paula’s picture on only because it had Paula’s picture on it, knowing the product would be delicious. It was delicious. Now I will by another brand. How sad our world has become. We can not do or say anything without a camera, or a cell phone catching everything that you do. It is then uploaded and put out there in cyberspace for the entire world to see. I have been to The Lady and Sons restaurant in Savannah Georgia. I went twice. I was there for a dinner service on the way to Florida where my daughter and I waited on line and had a fabulous experience. The second time we stopped was on the way back from Florida. We missed the lunch service by 15 minutes. Paula’s husband Michael Grover was there, and when I told him I drove 5 hours straight from Disney just to come and eat at the restaurant he smiled and opened the doors and let us in. Paula Deen is a hard working woman who built an empire from nothing. She raised two fine young men, and has two wonderful sweet grandchildren. She promotes good will and good food. She hosts a cooking show. She cooks southern dishes. There is no pretense of healthy foods, or diet foods. Nobody is forced to cook her foods or to eat the foods that she cooks. She has provided good clean entertainment on the Food Network for 11 years. She has been trashed by the media without a trial. Many have done worse with only a slap on the wrist. The treatment of Paula Deen is deplorable. People must learn to grow up. People must learn to mind their own business. This is a situation blown so far out of proportion. I feel so badly for her and her family. The public has gone crazy. People have gone crazy. I know the backlash of all this will subside, but for now leave this woman alone, and go after people that have really done real harm and made other lives miserable. They lawyered up the Boston bomber, and yet they go on a witch hunt on Paula Deen. Nothing else needs to be said. Good luck Paula. Stay strong for your family.
