Lucious Halibut Salad
When I lived in Canarsie Brooklyn during its good days, we had fish stores. We had fantastic fish stores. My mom used to buy halibut salad. I think it was a weight watchers thing. She would bring it home and we devoured it. It was delicious. My sister and I would run out to get it all the time. When the fish stores went out of business we never had it again. Well my Shoprite carries it. They have for quite awhile and it is delicious. It is not doused in mayo like many of the other seafood salads that are sold. It is light and fresh. It reminds my of the halibut salad that I used to get in Brooklyn. It is just terrific. I wanted to see if I could recreate it. As I blogged yesterday, my friend gave me a piece of halibut. I went to Shoprite and I bought a half pound of halibut salad to compare and contrast the one I was going to prepare. I was told by the man who works in the fish department how Shoprite prepares it. I went home and I followed his instructions and it came out pretty close. I need to save some for my sister so she can judge it and compare it to the halibut salad we use to enjoy in Brooklyn. I also made Asian crusted cod. I wanted to put a spin on the cod oreganata that I prepared the night before. It was really good except for one minor flaw. I oiled the fish the same way I did for the oreganata, but I needed to put a small amount of seasoning on the fish itself probably a 1/2 tsp. of salt and the same of pepper. Even though the topping had salt, the cod needed to be salt and peppered. The topping tasted really good. My daughter liked the fish, but she loved the topping. The recipes are posted in bonappetitmomrecipes. The sesame noodles were delicious. However I did not make them, Fairway did. I must make my own version of that food. I made roasted vegetables. I made broccoli for my daughter and cauliflower for myself. I put them on the same sheet pan because I handled them the same way. I coated them EVOO, salt and pepper. I roasted them with the fish but for 10 minutes longer. They were really tasty. Another good dinner. On a different note, I must finish up my Asian food craze. Nothing personal, but I am gaining alot of weight. Yes it is because I have not stopped eating since January 31st, but all of the salt is doing me in. I am now switching gears and going into Italian food to see if I can manage my salt intake better. I am also going to eat more salads. Check out my recipes. They are really yummy. Stay safe my fans and Bon Appetit.
