A sign of the times??????????
As a mother it is very hard to ignore the last few days. I can not wrap my head around this horrific tragedy that violated every sacred right to humanity. I was happy not to be a teacher, or a parent of a school age child anymore. It is hard to blog about food when, the reason for blogging has been jolted from my mind. My heart breaks for the families of those killed. I feel sorry, no sorry does not even begin to convey my heartfelt sympathy for them. I know life goes on, and my biggest hope is with time and love what has now become their new normal, gets easier for them.
Thanksgiving has come and gone. For that matter so did Hanukkah. Latke time is over and we are moving on to Christmas. I think I will make fruitcake cookies. They were good. I designed them off the recipe from Ina Garten. It really is a hearty grownup cookie. If I remember it correctly it has dried fruits and liquor. That is a good start on it’s own. Since I lost so much food from the hurricane, I need to restock my supplies. I really don’t like baking in my tight little kitchen, I would really like to make a dish. With the weather turning colder I think I will make some chili. I think I will make chicken chili. Everyone really enjoys it. It is very hearty and I will add a lot of vegetables. When my child was home I used to keep the house stocked with vegetables all the time, now I shop on a as need basis. Now that she is coming home I can now shop with rigor. I think I might make pulled pork. I owe one to my nephew. I make mine in the slow cooker. It comes out so tender and flavorful. I know that pulled pork is normally a summertime food at least it is to me. But i guess it can be prepared for any season. I have this thing about food and seasons. I always associated winter foods as my heavy comfort foods and the summer as my light and weight friendly food. I think a lot of people do. I like to think of it as a food for all seasons. My first blog on my new mac pro. Yea. I am really enjoying exploring on my new toy. Something to dream on. Stay safe and warm and Bon Appetit.
